Considering the decision to stick with Flask for the time being, this ticket no longer holds #3 as a dependency and can be moved forward.

This issue has been resolved, the current frontend can be hosted by flask and works as expected.

New tickets will be created to figure out how to get it into a working state instead of this early rough development state.
